Teacher - BASE

Exemption Status/Test: Exempt/Professional

Reports to: Principal

Dept./School: Assigned Campus

Pay Grade: TEA

Primary Purpose:

A BASE teacher is a professional who manages student behavior in BASE classroom through direct instruction in expectations for behavior. A BASE teacher provides intervention and instruction to assist at-risk students to develop appropriate behavior, coping skills and social skills.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of special needs of students specific to behavior

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior within a self-contained environment

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to work with all children, including children with disabilities

Experience:

One year teaching experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Instruction Implements instructional and behavioral program.
2. Utilizes knowledge of PASS behavior management system in designing individual and classroom programs.
3. Plan and use appropriate learning skills, activities, equipment and materials that meet the needs of assigned students through individually designed lessons.
4. Provide instruction in PASS Monitoring System and reward system.
5. Instructs and models replacement behaviors identified on student's behavior plan
6. Provides instruction and role-play opportunities for students in replacement behaviors identified in student's behavior plan.
7. Escorts students to mainstream classroom for structured observation and student feedback experience.
8. Facilitates student completion of a modified amount of academic assignments from teacher of record.
9. Consistently monitors students and uses PASS monitoring sheets to document student behaviors
10. Ensures that accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans are implemented for students with disabilities as appropriate
11. Maintains effective communication with classroom teachers, staff, administrators, and parents that build relationships and lead to greater behavioral outcomes.
12. Assists in developing interventions, functional behavior assessments, and behavior plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.
13. Schedules PASS team meetings as necessary to implement a successful PASS program
14. Maintains monitoring documents and logs for all students.

Personal and Program Management

1. Assigned subject area paraprofessionals.

Training and Staff Development

1. Work with Director of Curriculum and Director of Personnel in developing New Teacher Academy Program.
2. Plan and conduct monthly new teacher meetings, trainings for teachers hired after the beginning of school year, and provide paraprofessionals instructional support training.
3. Identify staff development needs, develop and present training.

Other

1. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assigned subject area teachers.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non-ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
